The special issue is called "Local natural and cultural characteristics as the cornerstone of the future of rural landscapes -a comparative case study of cultural landscapes in Britain and Japan" and is edited by Prof. Katsue Fukamachi from Kyoto University.

The paper is an outcome of the research stay of Professor Lange as Visiting Professor at the University of Tokyo, Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, Department of Natural Environment Studies with Professor Makoto Yokohari.
