JSPS London is pleased to launch a new award which aims to provide financial support to UK-JSPS Alumni Association members to enable alumni to maintain collaborative ties with Japanese counterparts. The Alumni Support Scheme has been established to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of UK-Japan relations.
The scheme makes available the sum of £2000 which can be used by the awardee to facilitate collaborative research with Japan. This can include initial project planning and development, supporting the direct costs of research, enabling the advancement of research through workshops or seminars, or visiting Japan. Applicants may seek support for any combination of eligible activity up to the cost of £2000.
JSPS London will assess applications equally on their merits. All applications should demonstrate that JSPS funds are sought for a clearly defined activity, which will have an identifiable outcome, and which contributes positively towards UK-Japan academic collaboration.

Eligibility
Only registered members of the UK-JSPS Alumni Association are eligible to apply for the scheme. If you are in doubt about whether you are registered, please contact the JSPS London Office.

Funding Availability
Funding is available for any aspect of UK-Japan collaborative academic activities. However, the funding can only be used for the direct benefit of the Alumni fellow and not for the benefit of the Japanese counterpart (i.e. the money cannot contribute towards travel expenses, accommodation expenses, or honoraria for Japanese academics).
The UK fellow may use the money for activities including:
- Making an academic visit to Japan
- Organising a UK-Japan conference or meeting in the UK

Please note, the support money must be used between 1st May, 2008 31st March, 2009.

Application Procedure |

To apply for the scheme, please download the application form below. You may expand the length of the application form up to one side of A4 paper (i.e. up to a total of 5 pages).
Applications and scans of any supporting documentation should be submitted by e-mail to Natalie Loader at nloader@jsps.org.

Deadline |
|
The deadline for applications is 17.30 on Thursday March 6th, 2008. Applications submitted later than this will not be considered under any circumstances. JSPS London's decision is final.
