28 May 2009 Pre Departure Seminar and Alumni Evening 


The Pre-Departure Seminar for the JSPS Summer Programme awardees, Postdoctoral Fellowship awardees and Short-term Programme awardees was held on 28/05/2009.

The seminar started with opening remarks from the Director Prof. Yuko Furukawa. The seminar also consisted of the following presentations and was well attended.

An introduction to JSPS London was given by Takeshi Sekiguchi, Deputy Director of JSPS London, followed by JSPS Activities and International Collaborations by Ms. Naoko Yamaoka and Ms. Yu Yonehara, JSPS Tokyo Head Office. Then, Ms. Magdalena Powell and Dr. Andrew Quantock spoke about their research experiences in Japan. Their presentations gave lots of useful information on working practises in a Japanese research environment as well as daily life in Japan.
Also, Dr. Hans Hagen, Mr. Neil Cantwell and Mr. Steve McEnally gave presentation about further funding opportunities.

After the pre-departure seminar,UK-JSPS Alumni Association held an alumni evening for exchanging information.
Dr. Martyn Kingsbury, UK-JSPS Alumni Chairman made an opening speech and gave an introduction to the Alumni Association.
