| This Programme provides the opportunity for short-term visits
for young pre- and post-doctoral researchers from Europe and
North America to conduct cooperative research with leading research
groups at Japanese Universities and Institutions. The Programme
is designed to provide researchers with firsthand experience
of the research and living environment in Japan, whilst expanding
academic exchange between Japan and the United Kingdom. Researchers
from all fields of sciences including humanities and social
sciences are eligible to apply. Awards will cover visits of
1 to 12 months. |

Please note that JSPS London is implementing
amended eligibility criteria applicable to applicants for
the JSPS Short-Term Award through the London office.
Under our new criteria, only nationals of the following countries
are eligible to apply through the JSPS London Office:

Nationals of other countries may be eligible to apply for
funding through JSPS Tokyo. Please check Tokyo's fellowship

Please also note that there are different eligibility criteria
for PhD student applicants and Post-Doctorate applicants and
your status at the time of submitting the application determines
which eligibility criteria is applicable to you.

DURATION AND COMMENCEMENT OF AWARDS: |

Grants are awarded for a period of 1 to 12 months. |

Applicants are asked to take up their awards in Japan
between 1st Mayr, 2008 and 31st
March, 2009. |

TERMS OF THE AWARD: |

Return air ticket (based on JSPS regulations)
|
| • |
Monthly maintenance allowance of ¥364,000
(for Post-Doctoral Fellows) |
|
¥200,000 (for Doctoral Fellows) |
| • |
Settling-in allowance of ¥200,000
(only for awardees with a tenure of four or more months) |
| • |
One-off domestic research travel allowance
of ¥58,500 |
| • |
A monthly research support allowance
is available to cover cooperative research-related expenses.
Applications for this allowance should be made by the
host researcher. |

Overseas travel, accident and sickness
insurance coverage (based on JSPS regulations) |
