Professor Keith Moffatt (University of Cambridge)

14 April 2014

Bilateral

JSPS Joint Research Project

Project title: "Topological vorticity dynamics in the physical and biological sciences."

Japanese scientific lead: Professor Yasuhide Fukumoto, Institute of Mathematics for Industry, Kyushu University

UK Counterpart: Professor Keith Moffatt, Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge

Project Duration: April 2012 to March 2014

This programme of the meeting we held in Cambridge in September 2013 gives an idea of the Departments and Institutions involved in this collaboration: "Topological Vorticity Dynamics in the Physical Sciences," event programme, September 2013 Funding from the UK side was provided by the individuals involved from their research grants or other University sources. Earlier funding for the workshop "Topological Fluid Dynamics" held in July 2012 within the Newton Institute Programme "Topological Dynamics in the Physical and Biological Sciences" was provided partly by the Newton Institute and partly by The International Union for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM); for the (open access). Proceedings of this meeting, can be  found here: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/journal/22109838/7, and contains a number of contributions from Japanese participants, funded by the JSPS grant.

I participated also in the IUTAM Symposium "Vortex Dynamics: Formation, Structure and Function", held in Fukuoka in March 2013 (see http://imi.kyushu-u.ac.jp/~iutam2013/); I was supported by JSPS, as were several other UK participants.
