The symposium will start with a keynote lecture by Prof. Nick Tyler (UCL Transport Institute), which will be followed by 8 talks about social entrepreneurship from academic, political, economical and entrepreneurs' point of view, as well as supporting structures.

Following the symposium, UCL-Osaka reception will be held in UCL North Cloisters (one-minute walk from the symposium venue).

UK-Japan Seminar on the Politics and Practices of ‘Low Fertility and Ageing Population’ in Post-War Japan

In Japan, policymakers have long struggled to come up with effective measures against ‘low fertility and ageing population’ (shōshi kōreika). But, what exactly does ‘low fertility and ageing population’ mean in practice? What are the politics behind the policies of ‘low fertility and ageing population’? The proposed seminar examines histories and practices surrounding issues of ageing and fertility in postwar Japan in order to better contextualize the ongoing policy debate over the country’s ‘low fertility and ageing population’.
