The method of application submission is dependent upon which programme you wish to apply for. Please note that at present only applications for the JSPS Post-doctoral Fellowship for Foreign Researchers (Short-Term) can be submitted through the JSPS London Office. All other programmes should be applied for through the JSPS Headquarters or the appropriate UK nominating authority.

There are two types of Invitational Fellowships:
Short term for stays of 14 to 60 days and long term for stays of 2 to 10 months.
Application Deadline: 29th August 2025 to JSPS Tokyo via a host institution in Japan.
These fellowships must be started between 1st April 2026 to 31st March 2027.
Our Invitational Fellowships provide the opportunity for researchers based outside of Japan to conduct collaborative research activities with leading research groups at Japanese universities and research institutions for single visits of between 14 days to 10 months. Eligible applicants need to be established researchers with an excellent record of research achievements. Eligible research fields are not limited. A JSPS Invitational fellowship can be awarded to the same researcher multiple times.
*Japanese nationals who have lived outside of Japan for at least 10 years and have been actively engaged in research throughout this period are also eligible to apply.*
**Please send applications to the JSPS Tokyo electronic application system via a host institution in Japan by 29th August 2025. Please be aware the internal deadline set by the host institution to collect an application and forward this to JSPS Tokyo will be earlier. The JSPS Tokyo electronic application system will accept applications from July 2025.**

The JSPS Summer Program provides opportunities for young pre- and post-doctoral researchers from Europe and North America to receive an orientation on Japanese culture and research systems and to pursue research under the guidance of host researchers at Japanese universities and research institutes over a period of two months during the summer.
