The Royal Society and JSPS have a new agreement in place to cost share exchange of researchers between the UK and Japan. Up to £12,000 for travel and subsistence is available from the Royal Society for UK based researchers to conduct 2-year projects, including a maximum of £2,000 for research expenses. Equivalent funding is available from JSPS for Japan based researchers.
The Royal Society and JSPS have agreed to jointly fund 5 new projects in this call.

The EPSRC are seeking expressions of interest by 23 August 2016, for participation in the JSPS Core-to-Core Scheme in the areas of advanced materials.
Matching funds worth up to 18 million Japanese Yen (approx. £130,000) per year are available from the EPSRC for up to 5 years starting from April 2017 for joint research projects, seminars and researcher exchanges with the aim to create world-class research hubs centred around the UK, Japan and at least one other country.

Pathway to University Positions in Japan Fellowship for Postdoctoral Researchers provides the opportunity for researchers based outside of Japan to conduct collaborative research activities with leading research groups at Japanese Universities and research institutions. JSPS will fund the initial 12 to 24 months of the visit and the fellowship thereafter is designed to lead to full-time employment at the host institution. Eligible applicants must to be within 10 years of finishing their PhD. Eligible research fields are not limited.
*Please send applications to JSPS Tokyo via a host institution. Please note the deadline for host institutions to submit these applications to JSPS Tokyo is Friday 2 September 2016. However, host institutions will set an earlier deadline in order to collect these applications from individual host researchers.*

There are 3 types of JSPS Invitation Fellowships for mid career to senior level researchers to do collaborative research in Japan:
Long term: for a 2 to 10 month visit
Short Term: for a 2 week to 2 month visit
Short Term (s): for a 1 week to 1 month visit
Fellowship Start Period: between 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018
