Registration: Please sign up for the event at the registration form by 18 Aug.

Upon confirmation of your registration, your details will be provided to the Embassy of Japan, and the Embassy will send you an invitation email several weeks before the symposium. Please note that, for security reasons, you will be required to show the invitation email when entering the venue. There will be a reception (about 1 hour) after the symposium, to which you are also invited.

FY2018 EPSRC UK-Japan Call in Coordination with the JSPS Core to Core Programme

The EPSRC are seeking expressions of interest by Monday 14th August 2017, for participation of UK groups in the JSPS Core-to-Core Scheme in the area of advanced functional materials. 

The EPSRC will contribute up to £2M for the call as matching funding to that provided by JSPS, funding approximately two collaborations depending on success in the peer review process that will be managed by JSPS. Funds should be used over a 5 year period starting from April 2018 for joint research projects, seminars and researcher exchanges with the aim to create world-class research hubs centred around the UK, Japan and at least one other country.

FY2018 Bilateral Joint Research Projects/ Seminars

Type A: Bilateral Joint Projects with JSPS’s Counterpart Institutions
This is a scheme based on the agreement with the Royal Society.

Duration of Project: 2 years

*Starting date on 1 April 2018 for Japanese side.

Staring date up to and including 31 March 2018 for UK side.  

Application Period: 

JSPS: Wednesday 23rd August to Wednesday 6th September, 2017

* Please note that applicants’ affiliated institutions may set earlier deadlines. Under no circumstances will JSPS accept applications submitted after this period.


Type B: Open Partnership Joint Projects/Seminars

Duration of Project: 

Joint Projects – up to 2 years 

*Start date must be during the period of 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019

Joint Seminars – up to 1 week
* Seminars must be held during the period of 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019

FY2018 Call for JSPS Invitation Fellowships

There are 3 types of JSPS Invitation Fellowships for mid career to senior level researchers to do collaborative research in Japan:

Long term: for a 2 to 10 month visit

Short Term: for a 2 week to 2 month visit

Short Term (s): for a 1 week to 1 month visit 

Fellowship Start Period: between 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019

Application Deadline: 1 September 2017

*Please send applications to JSPS Tokyo via a host institution. Please be aware the internal deadline set by the host institution to collect applications to forward to JSPS Tokyo will be earlier.
