FY2027 Call for JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan

Application deadline: 5 p.m. on August 28, 2026 (JST)

Applications should be sent to JSPS Tokyo via a host institution in Japan.

Fellowships are expected to commence between 1st April to 30th September 2027

This fellowship provides the opportunity for researchers based outside of Japan to conduct collaborative research activities with leading research groups at Japanese universities and research institutions for visits of between 12 to 24 months.

Eligible applicant need to have finished their PhD at the time of applying to start their fellowship in Japan or have obtained their PhD on or after 2nd April 2021.

Open to all research fields.

Please note that the duration of the fellowship may not be divided into multiple stays.

FY2027 Call for JSPS Invitational Fellowships

Fellowships

There are two types of Invitational Fellowships:

Short term for stays of 14 to 60 days and long term for stays of 2 to 10 months.

Application Deadline:  5 p.m. on August 28, 2026 (JST)

Applications should be sent to JSPS Tokyo via a host institution in Japan.
These fellowships must be started between 1st April 2027 to 31st March 2028.

Our Invitational Fellowships provide the opportunity for researchers based outside of Japan to conduct collaborative research activities with leading research groups at Japanese universities and research institutions for single visits of between 14 days to 10 months. Eligible applicants need to be established researchers with an excellent record of research achievements. Eligible research fields are not limited. A JSPS Invitational fellowship can be awarded to the same researcher multiple times.

*Japanese nationals who have lived outside of Japan for at least 10 years and have been actively engaged in research throughout this period are also eligible to apply.*
