Program Outline:
The JSPS Summer Program Fellowship offers the opportunity for pre/postdoctoral researchers to receive an orientation on Japanese culture and Japanese language lessons and to pursue research under the guidance of host researchers at a Japanese university or research institute over a period of two months during the summer. The orientation will take place at the Graduate University for Advanced Studies (SOKENDAI).
Eligibility:
Applicants should be a British national or a permanent resident of the UK and at the time the Summer Program goes into effect either be enrolled in a PhD or MPhil course at a UK university or have obtained their PhD from a UK university within the last 6 years (on or after 2 April 2021). The candidate must also be based in the UK for research purposes as of 1 April 2027. Candidates of more than one nationality may not apply through more than one nominating authority.
Please note:
Candidates with a residential address in Japan at the time of the application deadline are not eligible.
Candidates of Japanese nationality are not eligible, even if they hold a permanent residency status in the UK.
Research Remit:
All fields within the natural and physical sciences and the humanities and social sciences are included under this program.
Program Duration:
2-month fixed period from 14 June through to 24 August 2027.
