The programme is designed to provide researchers with first-hand experience of the research and living environment in Japan, whilst expanding academic exchange between Japan and the UK or Ireland. Researchers from any fields; Computer, Engineering, Health, Biological, Life, Natural and Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences etc. are eligible to apply. Awards will cover visits of 1 to 12 months.

Fellowship Start Period: 1st May 2022 – 31st March 2023

FY2022 Call for JSPS Invitation Fellowships

Fellowships

There are 2 types of JSPS Invitation Fellowships for mid career to senior level researchers to do collaborative research in Japan:

Long term: for a 2 to 10 month visit

Short Term (first of two calls for FY2022): for a 14 to 60 day visit

Fellowship Start Period: between 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2023

Application Deadline: 3 September 2021

2021 JSPS Postdoctoral Fellowship Call

Fellowships

Application Deadline: 15:00, Wednesday 10th March 2021

Fellowships are expected to commence between 1 September 2021 – 30 November 2021.

*There may be an extension to this visit period depending on the state of the COVID pandemic at that time which could restrict international travel.

This fellowship provides the opportunity for researchers based outside of Japan to conduct collaborative research activities with leading research groups at Japanese universities and research institutions for visits of between 12 to 24 months.

Eligible applicants should be a UK resident and currently based at a UK university or research institution. The applicant needs to have finished their PhD at the time of applying to start their fellowship in Japan or have obtained their PhD on or after 2nd April 2015.

Eligible research fields must be within the remit of natural sciences, which includes but is not limited to biological research, chemistry, engineering, mathematics and physics.

JSPS SUMMER PROGRAMME 2020 FOR MPhil OR PhD STUDENTS

JSPS Summer Programme 2020
Application Deadline: 15 January 2020, 23:59 GMT
Fellowship to take place during fixed period: 9 June to 19 August 2020

The JSPS Summer Programme provides the opportunity for current MPhil or PhD students to receive a one week orientation on Japanese culture and research systems on arrival and then move to a host institution in Japan of their choice and approved by JSPS, to conduct collaborative research activities for 2 months during the summer.

Eligibility: For the 2020 Programme, 23 fellowship places are available for UK nationals who are enrolled in PhD or M.Phil. programmes at a UK university at the time of application. Eligible research fields are not limited.

Value of award: Return international airfare, maintenance allowance (534,000, JPY), research support allowance (158,500 JPY) and overseas travel and accident insurance policy are provided.
